Bereavement Support Group
“…hurting and you cared for me…” —Matthew 26:36
Grief is a normal and healthy response to a loss. Grief is a cluster of physical symptoms, intense feelings, unusual behaviors, and strange thoughts that occur as one mourns. Grieving is a process of intentional work engaged in by the bereaved person. This grief work consists in the accomplishment of certain grief tasks that require considerable effort on the part of the bereaved and the presence of caring others. Perhaps you have heard the expression “joy shared is joy increased.” In the same way, we feel that grief shared is often grief diminished. A support group allows for a release, a sharing, and an understanding of the emotional anxiety that we feel. Our Bereavement Support Group strives to provide hope and personal support for individuals and families while they adapt to loss. This support group is not therapy; nor is it a cure-all. It is a mutual help group with guidance by a trained facilitator. The group accompanies the griever on the journey from grief to healing. Our group meets at Sacred Heart Church on the third Tuesday of each month. Our meeting is held in the Hospitality Room from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Bring a friend!
