Mass of Anointing October 16, 2004
The annual parish Mass of Anointing of the Sick and Elderly took place this year on Saturday, October 16. As always, the Mass was one of the most beautiful celerbated here at Sacred Heart. People of all ages coming together to pray for each other. The following show a small portion of the days activities.
As is the case with everything in life, the behind the scenes preparations are extensive. Here the kitchen crew starts the preparation for the luncheon that follows the Mass. Lots of the youth of the parish gave unselfishly of their time and talent, and they have our thanks for their effort.
And in addition to the kitchen work, all the tables had to be set, and assorted breads and desserts put out.
The Sacred Heart Choir was in fine voice that day. Heree they are doing some last minute practicing before Mass starts. Its amazing how much good music can add to a celebration.
As the time for Mass to start draws closer, the team assembles in the rear of the church for the procession. Fr. Barry from St. John of the Cross in Middlebury was there to assist our own Fr. Joe.
Deacon Mike assisted at Mass, reading the gospel for the day.
Fr. Joe was the homilist for the Mass, bringing to all the gift of healing and mercy of Christ Himself.
Just before the start of the anointing, Fr. Joe and Fr. Barry knelt at the altar while the choir chanted a litany of the saints.
Fr. Barry took the left side of the church to bring the healing power of God to those in need.
While on then other side, Fr. Joe was exercising his healing ministry.
The altar servers got a good close up look at how this sacrament is administered, and how much it means to those who receive it.
Sometimes there is no need for words. This could be one of those times.
Fr. Barry continued to minister to those in half of the church.
Communion followed the same plan as the anointing. Those who wish to receive simply remain in their seats, and a minister comes to them with the Body of Christ.
And then the Mass was over. Once again the healing power of God has reached out to those in need, bringing hope and love to all.
The luncheon was well attended. It looks like most of the poeple at the Mass stayed for a little nourishment and fellowship.
Meg was the person who organized the Mass this year. Here she is receiving some well deserved praise from those who attended.
The work's not done until the tables are cleaned up, and everything is put away. And here's a few of the parish youth who helped. Thanks, everyone.
