June 5 - 6 Voter Registration At Sacred Heart
Sponsored by the Sacred Heart Social Concerns Commitee

For several years, the Sacred Heart Social Concerns Committee has thought about sponsoring a voter registration at the church. This year we were finally able to get things together. A total of 17 people signed the voter registration form in church, and as many brought them home to be sent to the Town Hall later. This is a short photo story of that day.
Voter Registration Voter registration drives are intended to give those who have not registered for any reason the opportunity. There are many reasons, new to town, just reached voting age, change of address, etc. Here we see one of the newer members of the parish completing the form. Yes, its our own Fr. Joe. After all, he is new to town, and what with all the time involved in settling in, he hasn't had the chance to do it yet. What a great example.
Voter Registration Here are a couple of ladies from town signing up for that great American privilege. There is not much to it, just a few lines on a form, and its done.
Voter Registration And a couple of more to add to the rolls.
Voter Registration At the same time as the voter registration, the Action for Justice network was also signing up new members. This is a diocese program that alerts members on legislation pending in the state or national legislature that affects specific areas of member interest. The member is notified about the legislation, an explanation is offered, along with the church's position. The member is asked to consider the legislation, and take action by contacting their legislator and letting their opinions be known.
Voter Registration Anyone from age 17 up can register, and when they reach 18, their name will be automaticaly added to the rolls. Here is one of our younger members signing on for the first time. A little help from a more experienced voter never hurt.
Voter Registration Over at the Action for Justice table, a couple of parishioners are signing on. Watch for that yellow envelope, folks.
Voter Registration After the last Mass, members of the Knights of Columbus, (4th Degree) stayed and manned the tables for a couple more hours. This registration opportunity was open to all residents of town, not just members of Sacred Heart, and we wanted to make sure everyone had the opportunity to sign up.
We hope this has inspired you to join the ranks of registered voters if you have not yet done so. There will be another registration drive at Sacred Heart on Sept. 11 - 12. If you would like to register before then, just call the Town Hall at (203) 262-0644 (Registrar of Voters), and they will be most happy to help.
