Sacred Heart Church - Southbury, Connecticut, U.S.A.

On January 23, 2006, the annual March For Life was held in our nations capitol, Washington, D.C. Several members of Sacred Heart attended the march, and the other activities that take place around the Washington area. Below are some photos of the events taking place during that day. Thanks to Neil for providing the shots.

On Jan. 23, tens of thousands of people from many states, backgrounds and belief systems, all of whom agree life is the only choice, gathered in Washington, D.C., for a peaceful demonstration of our commitment. The event went largely unreported.

The annual March for Life on the 33nd anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision, which legalized abortion in the United States, was the culmination for many conferences, prayers and visits to legislators' offices.

Right to Life March

This is the contingent from Sacred Heart Church that made the decision to make their voice heard in the nation's capitol.
The grief expressed in the Pieta is shared by all people of good will about the untold millions of lives destroyed by the Supreme Court decision to allow abortions.
The suffering endured by Christ on the cross is relived in the pain endured by all those involved in the taking of innocent lives.
Archbishop Henry Mansell of Hartford attended the March, and was part of a large group of priests and bishops celebrating Mass before the start of the March.
And for the groups from his home diocese, Archbishop Mansell spoke before the march to encourage all those attending.
On a more local level, Bishop Mansell met with the group from Sacred Heart for a few private words.
And so it began. The march, as usual was not well covered by the local and national media. However, as you can see from these photos, these was a very large group of people expressing their desire to overturn the Supreme Court decision. The fact that they were ignored by the media sould never hold anyone back from expressing their views.
Here the group from the Archdiocese of Hartford steps off in the march.
Notice that our local representatives are in the forefront of the group, leading with the banner.
And beyond the local group, an even larger body of marchers follow. I'll bet you didn't see this large a crowd in the TV reports, or the newspaper stories.
The crowd continues the march...
...and finally reaches one of their goals, the Supreme Court building.
Our nation's capitol, seat of our elected representatives. Perhaps that fence we see around the building is meant to keep out any ideas that conflict with the current views of those in office.
