Southbury Community Thanksgiving Dinner 2008

Ahh, don't they look great. All ready for carving. The crew gets them started in the ovens about 5:00 AM.

Well, there's always a few left over that neeed to go in later. John is making sure it's ready.

While Sid checks the gravy. Just a little more time on the stove.

The volunteers spent a lot of time making sure the room looks just right. And they succeeded very well. It looks very inviting, friendly, and welcoming. This year, the Community Dinner was held in the United Church of Christ, on Main St. North.

Dom gets started with the carving assignment. With over 25 turkeys to carve, it takes quite a while to finish.

The old saying about many hands make light work is demonstrated here. All hands to the carving table.

While all that work is going on in the kitchen, others are equally busy in another room, where the pies and breads are being sliced and readied for the tables.
|
It just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without some cider. Lots of cider, with a carafe at each table.
|
Can't make it to the dinner? No problem. These folks will be glad to make up a take out meal for you, and deliver it to your home.

Including an assortment of delicious pies. Quite a stack of pie, don't you think?

More volunteers arriving. Please sign in first, so we'll know who's here. Then get your assignment.

With so many willing hands volunteering, the easiest thing to do is get everyone together, and go over the ground rules for the day.
|
And just in time. The guests have already started to arrive. No special reserved seats, just find a friend to sit with. And by the end of the day, everyone is a friend.

And so another meal starts. Months of planning and preparation have gone into what seems a simple event. Take a moment to give thanks for all our many blessings. We hope to see you all again next year.
