AmeriCares Musical Gala

On February 15, 2009, Southbury Faith In Action sponsored the annual Musical Gala. As in the past several years, B'Nai Israel Synagogue generously allowed the use of their beautiful sanctuary for the Gala. The donations from those in attendance will be used in support of this years AmeriCares HomeFront project. AmeriCares is an international relief organization that used local volunteers to restore an area home to a safe, warm and dry condition. Click here for more information on the AmeriCares HomeFront projects.

The program for the day has all the basic information. When, where, why, and inside, who and how to find more information.
Gary was there to greet those attending, point them in the right direction, and answer any questions that came up.
Did we mention that this is a fund raiser? Yes, of course you can use a check. Please put your free will donation here in the basket. Thank you.
The first act of the day is the always popular Willie Nininger. This year Willie was assisted by Ken Melton and Chris Haines on drums and guitar. You can find out more about Willie, his career and his schedule by checking out his web site.
Willie has a few words to say to his fans. Always a great showman, Willie has a large and faithful following in the area, and around the world.
All eyes, including those of the Valley Chordsmen who are on later in the show, are on Willie as he flies through his famous rendition of the William Tell Overture, done on the guitar.
And in a surprise ending, Willie invited the Chordsmen to join him on stage, as he ended his presentation with a rousing sing along of "This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land".
Everyone enjoyed Willie's sing along, including some members of the committee who were watching the proceedings from the back of the room. Difficult not to join in the fun.
Not being one to let a moment be wasted, Francesca uses the time between acts to explain to the crowd about AmeriCares HomeFront, what it is, how to volunteer, and how to apply for assistance.
Now let's talk about talent. Young talent. The second performer of the day was young William Linster. To say that he plays the piano would be an understatement. He is a master of the piano. And only 11 years old. Just imagine the what the future holds with even more practice and guidance.
William had a good time entertaining the people, and they had a good time being entertained. Of course, he didn't use any music, having the entire presentation in his head.
Next up, the always popular Valley Chordsmen. The chordsmen have been appearing at the Gala for the last several years, and are always appreciated. Nothing like those golden oldies, sung in barbershop style.
And closing with a rousing patriotic song. It just doesn't get any better.
And now, it's time for some refreshments. Everything looks good. And, by the way, did we mention that this is a fund raiser. In case you didn't have a chance to donate when you came in, this is your last opportunity to help.
What better way to end the day than with some cookies, and a nice hot coffee, or tea, or a cold drink. Thanks to all those who gave of their time and talents to make this the success it was. And thanks to all those who attended and offered their doantions to help a neighbor in need.
