Ion bank is opening the opportunity for their customers to vote on Thursday, February 1. The program will run until Saturday, March 31.
The Sacred Heart Youth Mission Trip consists of a total of 134 participants mostly comprised of teens and young adults. This year the youth group will travel to Cammillus, New York. During their mission trip they will assist with repairs to over 60 homes. The repairs include building wheelchair ramps, home repairs, mobile/home skirting, roof repairs, and small carpentry jobs including interior and exterior painting. Most homeowners are economically disadvantaged and/or elderly and do not have the means to complete these repairs independently.
The cost to attend the week long work camp is $64,000, which include a 26 foot box truck to transport tools, luggage and 35 ladders. The group sleeps, eats, and showers at the local high school. To cover the expenses, students that participate pay half of their fee. Organized fundraisers, annual grants from the Connecticut Community Foundation, and parish funds account for the other half of the expenses.
Ami Conlan, Pastoral Associate at Sacred Heart Church stated, “This experience provides interaction with people from diverse backgrounds and promotes respect and relationships in a Christian faith-based program. The personal growth in our young adults and benefiting the local community is the ultimate outcome”.
